Naked Heat

My improved make-up skills go hand-in-hand with learning what suits me.  For eye shadow, it’s always been warmth.  With my blue eyes and light skin, nothing lights me up like a warm shadow look.  When I heard about the Naked Heat palette, I knew it would be the best one for me yet.

In truth, I don’t reach much for my Naked palettes much any more.  The neutral shades were great when I was apprehensive about eye shadow, but they lack the golden, bronze, and orange shades I’m drawn to.  I love reddish shades and golden-flecked pinks.  Naked Heat swept in and saved the day.

Naked Smoky

I’m a self-confessed eyeshadow palette-addict.  I’m leaving for a wedding weekend trip tomorrow and am planning on packing at least three.  I’ve got so many new ones to share with you too!

This one is not-so-new.  Urban Decay Naked 2 was the first palette I got and I’ve been building my Naked collection ever since.  Smoky gave me pause, though.  I don’t often do very dramatic eyeshadow looks.  Naked has always provided super wearable shades, and frankly I was a bit intimidated by Naked Smoky.  I picked up Naked Smoky because it was on sale randomly at Sephora and I had a VIB Rouge discount.  It sat unused for a while because I never had an occasion to try it out.  Once I finally took the plunge, I found these shades to be incredibly wearable– even for day-looks!

Naked Ultimate Basics

Y’all know I’m an eye shadow palette-addict, and as much hype as Urban Decay’s Naked palettes get, I just didn’t find myself reaching for them all that much…

Enter, Naked Ultimate Basics.

img_3576

This baby has a lot of color variation– shades like those you’d find in all three of the Naked palettes, so it really bridges the collection.  Notice, I say “like” those you’d find in other Naked palettes, because all 12 of these colors are unique to Ultimate Basics.

This palette only contains matte shades, which is usually a drawback for me, but post-holiday season, I found myself looking for a more natural (read: less sparkly) look.  I’ve been reaching for this palette over and over again!  I’m extra obsessed with “Extra Bitter” right now.

The colors are:

  • Blow: light nude demi-matte, a great highlight shade
  • Nudie: soft pink-nude matte & the perfect base for my eyelids
  • Commando: light taupe-brown matte
  • Tempted: pale brown matte
  • Instinct: medium pink-taupe matte, love to blend with this one
  • Lethal: reddish brown matte
  • Pre-Game: pale yellow matte
  • Extra Bitter: burnth orange matte & the reason I love this palette
  • Faith: medium warm brown matte
  • Lockout: rich neutral brown matte
  • Magnet: smoky gray matte
  • Blackjack: warm black matte

Have you gotten your hands on Naked Ultimate Basics yet?

What We Wore: Wedding Guests

IMG_3233.JPG

I’m not one for OOTD-type posts, (this will, in fact, be the third to appear on this blog!) but I had to share these photos.

If you watched my vlog from this past weekend, you’ll know that Matt & I attended a wedding.  It’s pretty challenging for both of us to find dress clothes as we’re both rather small, but we managed to get it together.  I’m pleasantly surprised with how well we clean up!

On Matt: Suit: J. Crew | Shirt: Uniqlo | Skinny Tie: Penguin | Shoes: John Varvatos

On Nicole: Dress: Aidan Maddox | Shoes: Nina | Eyes: Anastasia New Renaissance | Nails: Essie Gel Couture in Pre-Show Jitters | Lips: Urban Decay Vice in Hitch Hike | Wristlet: Coach

It was a beautiful wedding, but these dancing machines really tired themselves out and are looking forward to a little more of a low key weekend.  Hopefully!  What do you have going on this weekend?

Current Everyday Make-Up

IMG_2149.JPG

The alarm goes off.  I do nothing.  The second alarm goes off.  I struggle out of bed, and go about getting ready for my day.  Somehow I always feel like more of a human once my make-up is done.  For work especially, I wear an everyday look again and again– something basic and professional.  I thought today I’d share with you what my everyday go-to products are!

Foundation: Smashbox Camera Ready BB Water

I’ve really not been into foundation lately.  It’s hot!  This light formulation lets my skin breathe and still has enough coverage to handle days when my skin isn’t looking its best!

Concealer: NARS radiant creamy concealer & Benefit Boi-oing

Nothing brightens my under-eye area like NARS concealer in shade vanilla– it’s just the perfect color for me.  For the cysts that have been popping up on my chin or the odd zit here & there, Boi-oing is high enough coverage to make them disappear.

Powder: Too Faced Primed & Poreless Pressed Powder

I bought this completely randomly, but I ended up loving it for a finishing powder.  It’s colorless and locks my foundation & concealer down for hot days.

Bronzer: Benefit Hoola

Now that I have a bit of a tan, Benefit’s Hoola is perfect for a little bit of contour and a little bit of warmth.  The accompanying brush is nice for contour, but I like to use a larger brush for bronzing.

Eye Primer: Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion

This is my go-to eye shadow primer.  I wear the original formula– it’s light, colorless, and keeps my winged eyeliner in place.

Eyeliner: Tarteist Double Take Eyeliner

I’ve discovered a new favorite.  Tarte’s liquid eyeliner is my new go-to for my daily wings that, at this point, are just part of my face.  It is waterproof, but I find removal a lot easier than my previous favorite.  I love the pencil side too– it glides on easily and lasts longer than any pencil that has graced my waterline.

Mascara: Benefit They’re Real! Tinted Lash Primer & Benefit Roller Lash

My lashes are so sad, I can’t go anywhere without mascara.  Benefit’s primer has been a god-send.  It’s brown, so it darkens my light lashes while lengthening and separating.  Paired with Roller Lash, I got the curl and length I need to make it look like I have lashes!

Holiday Season Madness

Is it just me, or is this a super stressful time of year?  I’ve been running around trying to complete my Christmas shopping, all while trying to get some reading done, and keep up with my new gym routine– spin Tuesday and Friday, body pump Wednesday and Saturday!

Although the season’s a bit crazy, I’m excited to show you Boston Public Market, my awesome Pokémon Gym t-shirts via weheartgeeks.com, the new Gwen Stefani Urban Decay palette, and my favorite YA series, Zodiac!

How’s everyone else doing lately?

Beach Weekend Make-Up Bag

If you’ve been watching my weekend vlogs or following me on instagram, you know I’m packing and repacking a weekend back to head to my beach house in Rhode Island every weekend!  I’ve made a lot of progress these last few weeks on my overpacking problem, and my make-up bag is my next venture.  More often than not, I’m not wearing any make-up down there… but I can’t be caught completely without should I need some!  Here’s what I’ve got in my beach weekend make-up bag:

IMG_8546

I definitely don’t need my usual foundation for the beach community, but I do bring my Nars concealer should I have some trouble spots.  I’m using Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue in place of my typical foundation, for a lighter face.  For powder, I take Bare Minerals Mineral Veil with it’s matching retractable brush– a space saver!

If you’re going to wear mascara to the beach, make sure it’s waterproof!  I don’t always, but I throw in my Clinique High Impact Waterproof Mascara in case I do.  I also bring my current favorite mascara, Benefit Roller Lash which is the one thing I always apply, even if I’m not wearing any other make-up.

If you’re going to be wearing eyeliner in the heat, you’d better prime those lids!  My Urban Decay Primer Potion has to come with me, because I love wearing eyeliner.  My Maybelline Unstoppable pencil and Stila Stay All Day waterproof liquid eyeliner and my make-up bag essentials.

My brows have needed a little work lately, so my Benefit Instant Brow pencil is a must-have.  I always bring my tweezers too– you just never know when a stray will pop up and need to be plucked!

Finally, I’ve been loving my Physician’s Formula Bronze Booster to even out any sun I’ve gotten at the beach that day.  My new Sephora pro bronzer brush has been it’s faithful companion.

This little Vera Bradley small cosmetic bag holds it all and is small enough to drop inside a larger bag or even my purse!

What are your make-up essentials for a beach weekend?

Julep Maven June | The Deep End

Hello June bugs! This month’s Julep Maven box is undoubtedly the best one I’ve ever gotten. I’ve got to be a year into my subscription at this point and I may be more in love than ever.

IMG_7926

I did another unboxing for you! Opening it up is fun because I never remember what I’ve gotten, and sometimes– like this time– I get surprises!

Now that I’ve had the products for a bit I was able to test and fall in love! Here are some more details for you:

  • Manda (Boho Glam) – sky blue with gold shimmer. This color reminds me of a mermaid! It’s got a brilliant but subtle shimmer.
  • Lillian (It Girl) – alabaster pink crème. This very light pink is so up my ally right now since I’m so interested in near-white shades!
  • Marcy (Bombshell) – prosecco silk (semi-matte opalescent). This gorgeous matte sparkle champagne is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen. The finish is unique, but undeniably lovely. All I can say is look for this in my next favorites post!

Gel Eye Glider eyeliner

These come in tons of shades but I picked Smoky Taupe Shimmer and Olive! They go on very smooth and wear well. I’m super happy with the colors I picked and would consider adding more of these to my collection!

Feels Like Velvet eyeshadow duo in Moonlight & Starlight

I did pick this duo for the name, but it also has the most beautiful and most versatile colors. Moonlight is a matte lilac grey and starlight is a white sand shimmer. These are very nice in texture, as the name would imply!

Long Weekend Eyeshadow Palette

An impulse purchase and a fabulous deal, this gorgeous palette holds 11 neutral shades with fun, summer names: Bask, Brunch, Catnap, Friday, Getaway, Bonfire, Lowtide, Monday, Saturday, Sunset, and Sunday. The packaging had me with strokes of watercolor blue, pink, and yellow. This is a nice substitute for an Urban Decay Naked Palette if you can get it discounted like a Maven!
