June, Going So Soon?

Alright friends, I think you can tell by the lack of posts lately that June has been a really hectic month.  How is it over already?  I didn’t get any of the posts up I wanted to.  I only read one book!

The good thing is, I took a lot of lovely photos that I’ll share with you now.

Goodness, the summer is flying by!  July to me has been full of vacation– family fourth of July weekend [here and here], and Evo in Las Vegas [here, here, and here]!

Home life has been readjusting testing new make-up products [more soon!], enjoying our home city [here], and lots and lots of poké-walks to catch ’em all in Pokémon Go [here, everywhere, and more to come]!

We’ve got lots planned for August too, so stay tuned!  What’s up next for you this summer?!

Long Weekend Vlog

A long vlog for a long weekend!  I actually got this baby up Monday night as usual, but timing is a bit off this week because of the holiday.  We’re mid-week now, but if you’re mourning summer and Labor Day Weekend, you can relive it with me here in the vlog:

Obviously, I hit a new milestone with running in this vlog, but if you’re wondering how last week went:

  • Monday, August 31 – 1.5 miles
  • Tuesday, September 1 – plans, no running
  • Wednesday, September 2 – 1.5 miles
  • Thursday, September 3 – plans, no running
  • Friday, September 4 – travelled to Rhode Island, no running
  • Saturday, September 5 – 1.39 miles outdoors which is always harder for me
  • Sunday, September 6 – beach, no running.

So, I think I could’ve done better… but I’m happy with the progress!  Stick with me and see how I do this week.  I’ll also keep you posted on that Fantasy Football team… I always share good news on twitter, so follow me there too 🙂

Halfway there, kids!

We can do it! ❤

More June Snaps

Hey guys!  While you’re reading this, I’ve started my Fourth of July vacation in the ocean state!  Follow me along on instagram to see what I’m up to!

In the meantime, I wanted to share a couple of my lost snaps from June.

The top photo was taken in Watch Hill, Rhode Island on my way to Taylor Swift’s house… she’s on tour, though, and sadly wasn’t home to greet me.  In all seriousness, I’ve loved this coastal village forever.  It’s one of many destinations on my summer checklist every summer.

The bottom photo is an outfit of the day taken on the last day of June.  I bought this cute little H&M dress last weekend.  What’s better than easy, breezy dresses for the office that you can dress up or down?  I’m looking forward to adding black tights and making this piece work for all seasons!  I’ll be sharing a couple other H&M purchases on the blog soon.

That’s it for today!  I’m off to work on my tan!

Any plans for the Fourth?

At June’s Close

Holy cannoli, can you believe today is the last day of June?  My summer is just flying by!  With the Fourth coming up, at least I’ll get to enjoy some time off!  As always, here are some of my favorite June moments in instagram form:

Anything you’re looking forward to next month?

Summer Reading 2015 [part 1]

Well friends, last summer I managed only ten books. Considering that I only read on weekends, (my job is super demanding) I guess that’s not horrible… but it doesn’t really sound like me. I’m hoping to blow that out of the water this summer. Or at least surpass it. Here’s what I managed to accomplish thus far:

The Rule of Four – Ian Caldwell & Dustin Thomason

This was marketed as Dan Brown meets Umberto Eco meets F. Scott Fitzgerald. I was into this. And it delivered as such! This was a quick but seemingly fulfilling read, weaving historical fiction into college adventure into real world danger. It was fun and interesting. The ending, however, I found to be a disappointment. I like it when books end and this kind of… hung there. It’s definitely worth a read, despite the many lackluster reviews I read on Goodreads. I liked reading it.

Shadow of the Night – Deborah Harkness

This is the second book in the All Souls trilogy. I read the first, A Discovery of Witches, during last summer’s reading project. I was on the fence with it, but thought about it enough afterward that I decided to read through the series. It was a similar experience to reading the first– the beginning is easy to swallow, bordering on historical fiction and magical fantasy, then things get a little too Twilight-y. I’m still up for reading the last in the trilogy, which you can look for on my list later this summer.

I, Justine – Justine Ezarik

I have loved ijustine for years. She was my first exposure to the world of YouTube, and she’ll always be my favorite. Now, Justine Ezarik is not a prolific writer. This isn’t a behind the scenes, earth-shattering tell-all. It is really interesting, especially for those of us who have been watching her videos for the better part of the decade. There’s that element of nostalgia for the days of hey hey you can ask IJ! It’s genuinely in Justine’s voice, and there are some tidbits that we’d never have known– like Justine once went to Hawaii with a boyfriend who didn’t want to be on camera so it looked like she went alone. All and all, this is a super quick read and a MUST for iJustine fans! I finished with a smile.

Orange is the New Black: My Year in a Women’s Prison – Piper Kerman

I’ve meant to read this for the last two years after finishing the latest season of OITNB. This year, I finally got around to it! I knew that there would be differences in the Netflix series and the actual memoir, but the differences are greater than expected. I tried to match up characters– I thought everyone was Morello, who is clearly a composite character. Red was an easy match to the woman Piper Kerman called Pop. The memoir’s Delicious became Taystee of the series. Though there is a Pennsatucky in the memoir, the character in the series is a composite as well. Reading this, you’ll recognize many scenes taken from it for the Netflix original, but ultimately, the story is different. Piper is different. I guess the main thing is that this book is about Piper, while OITNB really isn’t anymore. Quick, interesting read, though!

In truth, since I’ve written and photographed for this post, I’ve got another book under my belt… but you’ll have to wait for part 2 for that!  What are you reading this summer?

Photo Finish: Summer 2014

Though the season itself isn’t quite done, I can’t help but feel September’s approach means that summer is slipping away.  School is starting again for those who work in them or attend, and there’s already a cooler feeling to the air.  Well, I’ve got to say that this New England girl had a wonderful summer in Massachusetts and Rhode Island!

{1} Hi, neighbor!  Fourth of July Nails meets Narragansett beers {2} I am all about that porch life, and I thank it for my summer reading success and my super tan legs {3} summer isn’t complete without lobster!  I like the messy, do-it-yourself approach {4} a trip to Newport, Rhode Island and another helping of lobster at the Red Parrot {5} beach hair, no make up, no problems {6} I’m officially a blonde again {7} an amazing Boston view from a Beacon Hill apartment rooftop!  {8} snapped this in Narragansett, Rhode Island while we waited to order clam chowder, fritters, and stuffies {9} Chelsea, Kelsey, and me outside Watch Hill Lighthouse!
