June ‘Grams


Why yes, I am itching for my mini Fourth of July vacation.  I’m off tomorrow, so let’s say goodbye to June.

Highlights include: my first 5K attempt, celebrating Matt’s birthday, the first beach trip of the season, Cirque du Soleil’s Kurios, adventuring around JP & the Arnold Arboretum, and a lot of cooking together [here, here, and here].

I’ve got a couple of trips planned for July, but stay tuned.

Banana Bread + Sweet Peach Palette

Mostly I did two things last weekend– made Smitten Kitchen’s double chocolate banana bread recipe & purchased/tried out Too Faced’s limited edition Sweet Peach Palette.  I was super happy with both.  There was also running shoe-buying and Pokémon shirt-wearing.  Check it out!

Fitness Friday: 16 push-ups

Happy Friday, guys!  I’m happy to report I’ve survived the week, despite it being a bit stressful at times.  Now I’m just counting down the hours until the weekend!

I can’t even tell you what I did last Friday; I simply don’t remember… but it wasn’t hitting the gym, oops!

Saturday, it was the triumphant return of the love of my life favorite Body Pump instructor!  Before he left on his business trip, he challenged us to double the number of push-ups we can do on our toes, double it again, and double it one last time.  I did exactly 1 push-up on my toes that week, so he was expecting 8 out of me upon his return.  I did 8… twice.  That’s right, 16 push-ups on my toes!  I think I’m getting the hang of this.


Sunday is always a day of rest.

Monday, Body Pump again!

Tuesday, CX Work!  I can’t believe I’ve added this to my routine, but it’s so quick that by the time you hate you, you’re almost done!

Wednesday, I did a quick 1 mile run then went to Body Pump again!  And yes, I repeated the 16 push-ups for the instructor again since he did the same track as Saturday.

Yesterday, I went to a different kind of gym… a rock climbing gym!  Full disclosure: I wrote this post pre-climbing, so hopefully I can report that my new muscles did me right.  We’ll see, though.

Fitness Friday: 3 Miles


It’s not the greatest photo, and it wasn’t the greatest week of fitness either– I had a lot of plans this week!  I only made it to two Body Pump classes (Saturday and Monday) and skipped Wednesday so I could have the opportunity to run.

The most I’d ever run in my life is 2 miles; 3 miles is a whole new milestone for me.  Next time, I’ll have to add on that .1 to make it a 5K.  Also, can you check out my pace, please?  For a girl who “can’t run,” I think this is pretty good!  This is certainly a lot faster than I’ve run in the past… notice you’ve never seen a time from me before.

I’m proud, and I can’t wait to do more next week!  How’d you all do heading into the weekend?

Fitness Friday (2.19.16)


the gang from Saturday!

Last week I went pretty hard.  Since this post is a Friday thing, we’ll start with the previous Friday’s work– as promised, I got myself to RPM even though I was in full-blown panic mode.  I must admit, 45 minutes on the bike calmed me down a bit.

Saturday was insanity.  It started out with my normal Body Pump class followed by several more hours at the gym for 25 minutes of spinning, 25 minutes of rowing, and 25 minutes of strength training.  See weekend vlog for details.

Sunday and Monday I took easy.

Tuesday I did CX Work, a 30-minute core class.

Wednesday was back to Body Pump.  My regular instructed is away for work and it was a challenge with someone else at the helm for 55 minutes.  It’s not that the sub was bad, she just didn’t motivate me the way my regular instructor does.  Bestie/Fitness-Inspiration says you make your own workout; girl tells the truth.

Thursday, I was left to my own devices for the first time in weeks. And I decided to go to the gym? I ran 2 miles! How long has it been since I last ran?! I’m proud of me.

So, actually another good week?  Feeling fit heading into the weekend– how about you guys?!

Week in Review + Weekend Vlog

Guys, I really like this weekend vlog.  I hope you like it too.  It wasn’t the craziest weekend, but I like the feel of it… the things I ate, the places I went.  I’m happy with this one.  I’m happy with how my editing skills are coming along!

So, I wan’t to turn my fitness log into a little bit of a week in review instead.  Of course, we’ll be focusing on running and gym things, because that’s part of my life now!

  • Monday | I caught up with two of my very best friends who I really hadn’t seen for months.  We made some very unhealthy food decisions, but enjoyed each other’s company very much.  It’s remarkable how busy we all are now, so it’s important to make time for friends.
  • Tuesday | I returned for a second spinning class and this time, I did so much better!  I tried so much harder than the first time and pushed myself more.  I biked 18 miles in my 45 minute class and I am so, so into this now!  Then I watched Scream Queens and that was amazing.
  • Wednesday | Finally got to the gym and had a really tough time.  I got 1 mile under my belt and headed home.  I watched the Nashville premiere and everyone was so sad in it.
  • Thursday | A similar experience at the gym… just 1 mile.  But Thursday was my Friday!
  • Friday | I didn’t go to the gym, but I did SO MUCH WALKING around the city.  21,375 steps, to be exact, according to my fitbit.
  • Saturday | Fun, food, and friendship!  Also a 1.5 mile run in the morning.
  • Sunday | Another 1.5 mile run to break the Sunday curse!  I swear, now that I have a running playlist, things are going better.  I baked and went to Target.

Weekend Vlog & Fitness Log

See what I did there?  Enjoy the (long!) vlog in which I shopped a lot at Alex & Ani, Sephora, and Barnes & Noble, ate at Tiffani Faison’s Sweet Cheeks Q, and celebrated my brother’s birthday!

And here’s how the week at the gym went:

  • Monday | Hard day.  Decided to avoid running, boo.
  • Tuesday | Instead of running, I took my very first spinning class!  Honestly, I’ve been afraid of this for so long but I bit the bullet and ended up totally loving it!  I’m going back for another today… perhaps as you’re reading this!
  • Wednesday | 1.5 miles
  • Thursday | 1.5 miles
  • Friday | Lazy day.  No running.
  • Saturday | 1.5 miles
  • Sunday | 1 mile.  Guess that’s a Sunday thing now.

So, no great distances this week but I went to the gym 5 out of 7 days and hey, that’s not too shabby!  The worst part of this is the days I didn’t go to the gym were days I simply didn’t feel like it.  Here, I think I could’ve done better.  This is not always the case (and spoiler alert: not the case this week) but when it is, I should be pushing myself a little more.

This week’s goal: no excuses.  No “I don’t feel like it” or lazy days.  Let’s see how I do!

Weekend Vlog #9 // Running Log

This is actually a nice long weekend vlog for you, babies.  There is also a part two for you to watch!

And here’s the week in review for running:

  • Monday, September 7th: 2 miles!
  • Tuesday, September 8th: what did I do this night?  I forget, but I know it wasn’t running.
  • Wednesday, September 9th: 2 miles!
  • Thursday, September 10th: bad day, no running.
  • Friday, September 11th: 2 miles!
  • Saturday, September 12th: plenty of walking, no running.
  • Sunday, September 13th: just 1 mile.

So, I’m a little disappointed about that one mile on Sunday, but looking back at the week, I should be proud!  This was a pretty decent running week.  Actually, I guess this was the best running week I’ve had ever.  Perhaps as you read this, I am undertaking a new exercise challenge… more on that next week!
