Steven Universe vol. 1

As soon as I started watching Steven Universe, I checked iTunes for the songs I loved.  The music in this show is AMAZING (like, I’m considering several tracks for our wedding) and I was so sad that I had to depend on Youtube for my Steven Universe tunes.  Thankfully, my prayers were answered and volume 1 of the soundtrack is coming out at the end of this week!

I’ve already pre-ordered and the track listing is phenomenal.  I thought I’d highlight some of my favorites for you today! (more…)

So Many Things!

So many things have been happening this weekend & so many things happened this weekend!  This year’s Japan Festival was amazing, as was the fact that we got to see Kristin Chenoweth this weekend!  Yay, weekend vlogs are back!

Play Me, I’m Yours // Street Pianos

IMG_2922

Bostonians may remember that pianos graces our streets in 2013.  Play Me, I’m Yours is public playable art– painted pianos scattered throughout the city.  They’re coming back to Boston’s streets soon!

Back in 2013, my  most artistic friend, Chelsea Rathbun, got the opportunity to paint one of these pianos.  Chelsea’s piano sat at the bookstore at Berklee College of Music, thus got a lot of play!  You can still see it here.

Chelsea’s got another piano hitting the streets this year, and I visited her in the studio to see it in progress and get a sneak peak at some of the others!

These pianos will be yours next week!  Street Pianos will grace Boston September 23 to October 10.  Visit their website to see where this and other pianos will be and check my instagram for shots of this one in action.

Scream Queens: Beware of Young Girls

IMG_2135

How cruel of Scream Queens to delay this episode a whole week!  But it was a good one.  Here are my assorted thoughts and favorite quotes:

  • We knew we’d see Ariana Grande again.  I thought maybe that coffin shot was it, but yay for another Chanel no. 2 appearance!  I also thought every detail of this funeral was perfection.
  • Also, no. 3’s necklace is clearly from Bauble Bar.  I even blogged about it here.  The plentiful pearl baubles in this show have long given me the Bauble Bar-vibe, so I think this confirms it!
  • Love a good Ouija board.  Love the joke about the movie Ouija which I will never see.
  • Gigi was on the phone with said red devil who she knows and loves.  I think this could be the baby!
  • What is the deal with Grace and Gigi going shopping together?  Why is every relationship Grace’s father has so freaking weird?
  • HOW GREAT IS THE MUSIC IN THIS SHOW.
  • Oh goodness, the “just a head” pun.  I love it.
  • “Why do you have 9 tampons in your purse?”
  • The VIGOR with which Billie Lourd says “KIX” cracks me up.
  • “How do you even crush a diamond?  It’s like the hardest substance on earth!”
  • I want Chanel’s bed.
  • “There’s no dinosaurs?”
  • Chanel’s grasp on rat poison is much better than mine.
  • This was Jamie Lee Curtis’s episode, man.  That whole last scene!

Can I just be really honest with you guys for a second?  Why does KKT allow Grace to wear such hideous clothes?  Like, I was never in a sorority, nor do I believe this to be a factual representation of one, but there seems to be quite a bit of conformity amongst the Chanels and the KKT sisters of the past.  If anything, Grace needs a fashion influence.  Her clothes actually offend me.  I love the color palette of KKT, even though I live a life of neutrals, this pastel paradise is the real me.  It reminds me of Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette.

I think I’ve decided that Grace isn’t the protagonist of this show.  I hate her.  Do you?

Let’s hear your thoughts & theories, hookers!

Last Week on Nashville: Fixing It

IMG_1361

Rayna and Bucky are happy with the good publicity the Bluebird performance brought.  Rayna’s mood quickly shifts when she receives a delivery meant for Maddie: a diamond necklace from Edgehill.

Avery is pulling double duty tending to the very pregnant Juliet and producing Sadie’s album.  Avery’s Juliet distractions are not the only hurdle in this album.  Sadie is derailed by the constant threats from her ex-husband, Pete, who is not too happy about the restraining order she took out against him.  In fact, he serves her papers to get what he delusionally thinks he’s owed of her money.  When Avery finds her crying, she confides in him.  He goes to confront Pete, who is 100 feet away as the order demands, but still right in front of the studio.  As he does, Sadie suddenly gets brave, tells him to get lost, and is ready to finish her album.  Get it, girl.

Scarlet’s optimism and Deacon’s pessimism are at odds about his cancer.  Scarlet basically forces Deacon to actually speak to Maddie.  Facing Maddie with this secret is hard for Deacon, who has convinced himself he only has six months left to live, despite no definitive prognosis.  Face to face with Maddie, (on Facetime,) Deacon agrees to a guitar lesson.  As Maddie struggles with a chord transition, Deacon tells her not to ever give up and basically convinces himself not to give up on life.  I literally cry.

Luke has a sensitive, honest moment writing a song with Gunnar.  I hate him less for seeing that.

Layla’s released from the hospital.  I forgot about her.  After Jeff comes to visit and compliments her hipster performance in the park, Layla shows up at Edgehill all decked out in dark colors.  She never gets called into the meeting.

Rayna confronts Teddy after finding out he signed Maddie’s Edgehill contract.  Maddie still knows nothing of the contract, but Rayna is prepared to strip Teddy of his parental rights, since Deacon is her biological father.  Teddy comes clean with Rayna on the blackmail, and she agrees to save the family from the scandal.  At Maddie’s Edgehill presentation to the investor, it’s Rayna who shows up instead!  Power move for the Queen of Country!

Rayna drops the bomb of Layla’s attempted suicide and Jeff’s manipulation of Teddy.  She gets the contract nullified!  Jeff gets fired!  Then I think he sleeps with Layla?

~

What I’m hoping for tonight: I’m starting to think Deacon will never tell anybody about his cancer.  It’s time to tell the people you love, Deacon; they can help!

Since Scarlett’s been flirting with Deacon’s doctor a bit, maybe that poor girl will get a storyline.  I’d love her to get back together with Gunnar, but that’s far-fetched.

We didn’t get a single glimpse of Maisy (ehm, Daphne) last week.  Now that Rayna has told Teddy the girls are going to be sticking with her, I’m hoping we see both of them tonight!

Thoughts?!

Last Week on Nashville: Past Wounds

IMG_1351
Reeling from the break-up, Luke has taken to touring and performing whenever possible.  Rayna, on the other hand, has been home with her family and not appearing publicly.  This worries Bucky, as the rumors are flying.  Rayna agrees to perform at the Bluebird to alleviate this.  When she gets there (with Sadie, who’s covered her healing black eye with makeup) though, too many memories from her relationship with Deacon flood her mind.  She decides she is not quite ready.

Maddie’s teenage attitude is flaring up when Deacon keeps canceling their guitar lessons.  We can’t properly feel bad for her since we know why Deacon is unavailable, but even without this in mind– your mother is the freakin’ queen of country; treat her better. Maddie and Daphne perform in the Edgehill Student Studio.  This gives Marshall the opportunity to finally put his evil plan in action to sign Maddie to Egdehill.  I gave Teddy a lot of credit throughout this episode for saying no, but he eventually gives in since Marshall can blackmail him.

On the brighter side, Maddie eventually apologizes to Rayna, who invites her to write a song with her.  Rayna, Maddie, and Daphne perform said song at the Bluebird.  This is what this show is about, right here.

Gunnar goes to see Micah, who is acting up.  Micah thinks he’s bad since his father was bad.  Gunnar defends his brother, who he clearly loved unconditionally.  Hopefully they’ve taken steps toward repairing their relationship.

Scarlett invites her mother, Beverly, in hopes of finding a match for Deacon’s liver transplant.  At first, Beverly is a complete terror refusing to even get tested.  Deacon didn’t ask, and wouldn’t ask, but Scarlett feels she is owed this favor from her mother.  Things get nice for a while– Beverly gets tested and even sings a few notes with her brother and daughter.  She gets a call with the test results and lies that she is not a match.  She basically leaves her brother to die.

Hey, just how pregnant is Juliet?  She seems large, but notes that she has a very long time until the baby is born.  Anyway, she decides to finish her album for lack of other work.  She can’t catch her breath properly due to the pregnancy.  Avery is wonderfully supportive.

~

What I want to see tonight: Um, Rayna and Deacon being in the same room!  Still waiting on him to tell Rayna and Maddie about his cancer.  Really, I’m just not looking forward to Maddie and Edgehill.  Oof!

What did y’all think of last week & what are you hoping to see tonight?!

Last Week on Nashville: Heavy Hearts

"I love you," Rayna tells Deacon, "I've loved you since the first time I ever laid eyes on you, first time I ever heard you play a note on a guitar, first time I ever heard you laugh. And even through all the hell we put each other through, I love you now."

“I love you,” Rayna tells Deacon, “I’ve loved you since the first time I ever laid eyes on you, first time I ever heard you play a note on a guitar, first time I ever heard you laugh. And even through all the hell we put each other through, I love you now.”

Rayna has just called off her wedding and Luke is not doing well with being jilted. Remember that ugly side we saw of his as the CMAs? Well, that’s back. He slaps Rayna will a bill for the wedding that wasn’t, since People Magazine will not be footing the bill anymore. He also does some real insane things like driving his truck into the cake and barging into Deacon’s house accusing him of taking Rayna from him.

Our dear Rayna is hurt. Just because it was her decision to break things off doesn’t mean it doesn’t break her heart. With all the public relations issues, she stays strong. When she breaks the news to her girls, things don’t go well. Daphne is upset because she loved Luke. Maddie is upset because she’s still not marrying Deacon.

One of the two roughest stories of the episode is Gunnar’s.  After he tells Micah that he’s his uncle, not his father, Micah feels betrayed and decides to live with his grandparents. With the custody battle lost and Micah barely speaking to him, Gunnar is left broken hearted and watching his only family member go.

Deacon is the other rough story of the episode. That maybe-cancer from the mid-season finale turns out to be cancer: a tumor in the liver that necessitates a transplant. Scarlett offers part of hers, but is not a blood type match. We learn that if Deacon’s tumor grows much more, he will be ineligible for a transplant at all.

The silver lining: Rayna comes to see Deacon and confesses her undying love for him. We don’t unfortunately make any progress, because she understandably needs a little time.

Juliette and Avery have a little tiff over Avery moving all his furniture into her house, but really she’s quite well behaved and I hope there’s a lot of happiness in the future for them!  Avery tells Gunnar that he and Juliette tied the knot in a glorious bromance moment.

Layla’s not dead. Will and Layla finally settle on getting a divorce. Will is no closer to accepting his sexuality.

Poor Sadie’s got a gnarly shiner.

As for songs, “Roots and Wings” was absolutely lovely!  I also loved the use of “No One Will Ever Love You” in the preview for tonight’s episode!

 ~

What I’m hoping for tonight: more Javery fun, more songs, Deacon revealing his painful secret to Rayna, and some progress on the Rayna/Deacon love story!

What did you think of last week’s episode?

What are you hoping to see in tonight’s?!
