Halloween

Halloweekend Vlog

Guys, since I’m still pretending my gym relationship is going well, I at least wanted to tell you that I took a new class last week!  It’s Body Flow, which is a yoga/pilates/tai chi kind of deal.  My core finally got some attention, and I will definitely be returning.

How was everyone’s Halloweekend?!

Octobergrams!

November already?!  November is my favorite month because Thanksgiving is coming!  Sadly, my favorite season is flying by.  Here are the ‘gram-worthy moments from October:

[1] For a while, it was cool enough to be sweater weather!  This week, New England is experiencing Indian summer.  Woof. [2] Fall foliage in the suburbs– you can’t beat it! [3] I’ve been loving Pac Sun tees.  Check out my latest favorites video to see more! [4] Sunset over the Chestnut Hill reservoir… not a bad view! [5] I battled sickness basically all of October.  Good thing I had a seasonally appropriate cup from which to drink tea! [6] Pumpkin patch love at Pakeen Farms! [7] I touched up the blonde; I’m committed! [8] I took my first trip to Ogawa Coffee– Boston is the first US location, but there are 35 around Kyoto, Japan!  This caramel latte was delicious and went well with Why Not Me? by Mindy Kaling. [9] Halloween Chanel-o-ween!  Scream Queens with Celina.

I also put up a surprise new video over the weekend, so be sure to check out & subscribe to my Youtube channel!

Are you lamenting the flight of autumn, or already looking forward to the holiday season?!  I’m a little bit in the middle.  Let me know!

Scream Queens: Dos Diablos!

As always, here are my thoughts on this week’s Scream Queens:

  • Chanel rigs the election so she… loses!  She wanted Zayday to be president so she wouldn’t be the public face of KKT aka the main target.  Is Chanel actually super smart?
  • Another episode, another HORRIBLE hat on Grace.
  • Billie Lourd is the character winner of this episode.  Her voice makes me jealous because it’s not my voice.  Her storyline/little love affair with Sam was super compelling too.  And hey, how about working that earmuff explanation into this episode!  Awesome.
  • Sam, on the other hand, was the character loser of the episode.  And how could she say a thing like, “I knew it was you” when there is definitely no clear killer.
  • Speaking of clear killers… is it me or do the devils lack direction?  This episode’s red devil was absolutely not after Chanel no. 5, but was after Zayday.  Last episode, the red devil was in love with, and definitely not looking to kill, Zayday.
  • Roger died, but like, at least he’s with his brother now.  I’m sure he’s happier this way.
  • Chad Radwell’s “Dos diablos,” comment, the namesake of this post, was my favorite line.  I also enjoyed Lea Michele’s “…but she doesn’t because she’s dead!”
  • Before we go, let’s talk about the above photo: wasn’t the haunted pumpkin patch to take place on Halloween night?  Is Scream Queens just in a state of perpetual Halloween?

I think Chanel is looking less and less guilty as this show goes on.  I’ve never thought she was, but I don’t think you possibly could now.  What do you think?  Missing from this episode: all adults.  Any red devil theories?

Scream Queens: Choose a Side of the Eiffel Tower

In this week’s Scream Queens, Chanel’s haunted pumpkin patch is in action… whether or not Dean Munch allowed it.  It turns into Orange is the New Black for a hot second, and we learn A LOT.  Here are my thoughts:

  • I loved the creepy theme this week!  So cool.
  • Chad Radwell turns out to be more enjoyable than I could have ever predicted.  His speech is kind of on point, eh?  And I love that everyone including Dean Munch and Denise Hemphill is sleeping with him.
  • Are we supposed to hate Grace, you guys?  And her dad?  Their interactions are always so weird, especially when she walked in on him and Gigi.  They just don’t seem to react normally to things like human beings would.
  • Lea Michele continues to be excellent and her character, Hester, continues to play everyone around her.  I think she called the cops on Chanel.  I’m glad Chanel wasn’t in jail long, though.
  • I knew Zayday wasn’t dead, but I couldn’t guess that the devil had a thing for her… or at least, one of the devils.
  • It was obvious to me that Gigi helped the devil escape.  It was nice to see a theory validated so quickly as well!
  • How perfect was that Shining-replica pumpkin patch maze with artisanal pumpkins and snow drifts?  It was quite lovely, honestly!  Cool scene all-around.

Have a great weekend, loves!

Au Revoir, October!

Happy Halloween!  Guys, October FLEW by!  It was such a great month, too.  Because it was such an awesome October, I had a hard time picking just 9 pictures for this post! Here are just some of the things that happened:

IMG_6306

[1] pumpkins, pumpkins, pumpkins! [2] I attended the midnight release of Super Smash Brothers 3DS.  The game is amazing!  And you can see how excited I was about it. [3] I took in a lot of fall foliage!  Remember my hike of Blue Hills[4] Gillian Anderson’s first book, A Vision of Fire, came out!  I’m hoping to actually get some time to read next month… [5] I returned to my all-black-everything fashion sense and finally finished/got re-obsessed with American Horror Story: Coven.  That’s kept me obsessed and up-to-date with AHS season 4! [6] I made pumpkin cookies with my little pumpkin friend!  I’ve actually done a lot of cooking this month. [7] I’ve done a lot of eating too.  These are pumpkin cheesecake cupcakes for part of our October birthday celebration at work. [8] Boston College football!  I went to BC v. Clemson, and getting stuck in the Clemson section was okay because cheerleaders are fun. [9] And finally, my Philly trip to visit Stacie & Walker!  That post went up earlier this week.

You can always check my instagram for more photo updates!

Have a fun Halloweekend, everybody!

Links for a New World [01]

Links for a New World is a feature in which I share a bunch of links to things around the web that are relevant to my interests.  It’s your weekend reading list!  The name comes from a musical… for no particular reason.

My pumpkin friend from last weekend's adventure! Stay tuned for this post next week.

My pumpkin friend from last weekend’s adventure! Stay tuned for this post next week.

  • Who Said it: Chandler or Xander? – This Buzzfeed quiz is surprisingly difficult!  I don’t think there are two shows I’ve seen more times than Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Friends, and yet, I only got 11/15 of these correct on my first try.  How did you do?
  • The Carleton – I actually saw this clip on the news at work and nearly lost it.  I don’t watch Dancing with the Stars, but I do love The Fresh Prince of Bel Air!  I watched this whole dance and literally screeched when Alfonso busted out that move.
  • Banjo-Kazooie: Everything and the Kitchen Sink! – Grant Kirkhope made the excellent music for some of my favorite Nintendo 64 games including Goldeneye, Donkey Kong 64, and Banjo-Kazooie!  Here, he’s offering every song from the latter two basically for free.  You can name your price, download, and enjoy!
  • Daily Dachshund – We will likely not get away with any lists of links that do not include something dachshund-related.  My friend Julia sent me this link and I nearly lost it.  This pup knows how to relax!
  • 8-Bit Cinema’s Frozen – This is the first 8 Bit Cinema video I’ve seen, but I absolutely love the idea and will definitely be watching more.  Basically, this is what Frozen would look like if it were an old school video game.  The best part for me is the remixed music that pulls at the strings of my nostalgia!
  • Taylor Swift’s “Riptide” cover – Oh, T Swift, I can’t help but love you!  This cover of Vance Joy’s Riptide for BBC Radio 1 near brings tears to my eyes.  I would love to hear Taylor sing in the genre more often.
  • And finally, pumpkin! – Halloween is nearing, and if I had any outdoor space, I’d have a pumpkin bigger than that little baby in the bowl pictured.  If you want to be super creative when carving a big, orange, jack-o-lantern, try one of these pokémon silhouette patterns!  Seriously, someone try one.  I want to see!

Julep Maven: October Box!

I kept it simple when choosing my October box– I actually didn’t change or add a thing!  The October It Girl box was just so perfect, that I couldn’t wait to get these great colors from the Black Magic collection!

IMG_6045

fun black sparkle tissue too!

Here’s what I got:

  • Shailene: bewitched purple with gold flecks, as described by Julep.  It looks brown in the bottle, but it’s a dark, almost black, magical purple glitter on the nails!
  • Dana: white with “electric blue sheen” as activated by UV light!  You can see some of the fun sheen in the photo above.
  • Ledi: black pearl shimmer.

These beautiful colors from the Black Magic Collection are perfect for Halloween, but also just great basics for any collection.  They look very neutral, like simple black & white, but pack a pretty punch!

As always, I got a coupon.  This time I got $10 my next $20 purchase.  I also got this pretty little goodie:

I’m obsessed with this card, and tucked it into the corner of my mirror.

Finally, I got candy corn in this box!  How cute!

Any other Julep Mavens out there?  What did your October box look like?

If you want to be a Maven, leave me your email address to get your first box free!
