2015 Reading List

Winter is officially over, and it’s finally starting to feel like it!  (Yes, even here in Boston.)  With March, and therefore a quarter of 2015, coming to a close, I thought I should share what I’ve read thus far.  It’s a short list… just wait ’til summer!

Anyway, onward!

Wow, that first week back at work after a vacation is rough!  I slept way in yesterday, and have enjoyed a wine and cheese filled weekend to compensate.  But, lots of things to share this week!

  • The Grace Helbig Project | My spirit animal, Grace Helbig, is getting her own show on E!  Save the date, Grace is coming to E in April.
  • Penguins gaming | For some reason, some people gave an iPad to penguins and apparently some of them are obsessed with a mobile game.  I love that.
  • TV Timeline | Roku actually posted this Mashable link– a timeline of television!  Not shows, television and like, how we watch it.  So interesting!
  • Tina, Gillian, & Netflix | Netflix posted this: “Why Tina Fey and Gillian Anderson are on Netflix.”  I love both of them and am so looking forward to more of The Fall and all of The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt!
  • Game of Thrones | We finally get a release ate for Game of Thrones season 5!  April 12 on HBO.  91 days to go!
  • CES & Doctor Who | CES brought us some important things, like this Doctor Who speakers (pictured above) from Massive Audio.  I probably need these.
  • Koalas Need Mittens | Finally, a very serious plea.  Reading this article absolutely broke my heart.  Outbreaks of brush fires have left a lot of kaola burn victims who are in desperate need of cotton mittens.  If you can, please help by making some mittens and sending them to Australia.

Looking Forward: 2015 TV

This is the most important list I could write.  Now that we’ve talked about favorite shows of 2014, let’s look forward to my most anticipated shows of 2015.  Mark your calendars for these very important premiere dates!

I thought Gillian would be nice eye candy to accompany this list.

I thought Gillian would be nice eye candy to accompany this list.

MasterChef Junior | We don’t have to go too long without this delight!  A new season returns Tuesday, January 6th at 8 PM on Fox.  You’ll probably see my recaps pop up on Fridays again.

Shameless | After quite the surprise in the end of last season, I can’t wait for new episodes!  Shameless returns to Showtime Sunday, January 11th at 9 PM.  I’ll be watching on Showtime Anytime since this conflicts with another show…

Girls | I feel like it’s been such a long time since the season finale.  Is Hannah going to Iowa?  I guess we’ll find out on Sunday, January 11th at 9 PM.  My recaps should be ready for you Mondays, as usual.

The Fall | Oh goodness, how I’ve missed this delicious Gillian Anderson detective thriller.  I’ve been waiting forever for new episodes, and the second series finally hits Netflix on Friday, January 16th.

Best New Restaurant | Tom Colicchio hosts this Gordon Ramsay production, Bravo’s new Best New Restaurant.  With the two of them involved, it’s a sure thing I’ll be watching.  The premiere is Wednesday, January 21st at 10 PM, I guess taking the place of Top Chef.  I’m hungry just thinking about it.

The Walking Dead | I’m going to be very busy on Sundays.  The Walking Dead returns from it’s midseason hiatus on Sunday, February 8th at 9 PM on AMC.

Better Call Saul | I finally finished Breaking Bad, checking it off from my TV to-do list.  Saul has got to be my favorite character, and I’m looking forward to more Bob Odenkirk in the AMC show!  It’s set to premiere Monday, February 9th at 10 PM.

Broadchurch | I’d been watching Gracepoint, but when Broadchurch finally hit Netflix it was clear that this is the superior show.  While series 2 premieres in January in the UK, we’ll have to wait a bit longer on BBC America.  Broadchurch series 2 premieres Wednesday, March 4th at 10 PM.

Orphan Black | It’s straight-up torture to make us wait this long!  My favorite show of the year finally returns to BBC America on Saturday, April 18th.  Clone Club Catch-Up will be back, friends!

So now you know what I’m most looking forward to in the new year and how you can watch too!  What shows are you most looking forward to?

Au Revoir, October!

Happy Halloween!  Guys, October FLEW by!  It was such a great month, too.  Because it was such an awesome October, I had a hard time picking just 9 pictures for this post! Here are just some of the things that happened:

[1] pumpkins, pumpkins, pumpkins! [2] I attended the midnight release of Super Smash Brothers 3DS.  The game is amazing!  And you can see how excited I was about it. [3] I took in a lot of fall foliage!  Remember my hike of Blue Hills[4] Gillian Anderson’s first book, A Vision of Fire, came out!  I’m hoping to actually get some time to read next month… [5] I returned to my all-black-everything fashion sense and finally finished/got re-obsessed with American Horror Story: Coven.  That’s kept me obsessed and up-to-date with AHS season 4! [6] I made pumpkin cookies with my little pumpkin friend!  I’ve actually done a lot of cooking this month. [7] I’ve done a lot of eating too.  These are pumpkin cheesecake cupcakes for part of our October birthday celebration at work. [8] Boston College football!  I went to BC v. Clemson, and getting stuck in the Clemson section was okay because cheerleaders are fun. [9] And finally, my Philly trip to visit Stacie & Walker!  That post went up earlier this week.

You can always check my instagram for more photo updates!

Have a fun Halloweekend, everybody!

  • Padma on Ellen – I love Ellen, but I love Padma Lakshmi even more.  Top Chef Boston kicked off this week (did you read my recap?!) and in prep for that, Ellen had Padma on to cook, laugh, and be absolutely wonderful.  Plus, I think I could make tortilla chips now, which is great news.
  • Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce – I’ve been so excited for Bravo’s first scripted show for so long for the simple reason that it combines two of my favorite shows.  We’ve got Marti Noxon of my dearest Buffy the Vampire SlayerHouse alum and another lady crush of mine, Lisa Edelstein!  The first official trailer promises raunch, so what’s not to like?
  • The Moon – The Moon (pictured above!) by design firm Nosigner is a topographically-accurate LED light created based on data retrieved from the Japanese lunar orbiter spacecraft Kaguya.
  • Friends is coming to Netflix! – January 1, 2015!  I’m sorry to be controversial, but this is even better news than the arrival of Gilmore Girls.
  • Pictionary with Gillian Anderson – The gorgeous Gillian Anderson (aka Scully from the X-Files, Stella of The Fall) wrote a book!  In celebration, she’s all over the internet doing fun things like this.
  • T Map of Boston Eats – This handle map of Boston’s public transportation is marked with restaurants instead of stop names.  I’m thinking about riding my way through this one.  My friend Julia sent me this one along with the best burger per neighborhood, which is also very important.

Have a brilliant weekend, everybody!

Seeing Red

My hair’s been every natural shade from black to strawberry blonde, but I took a roughly six year break from hair dye and accepted my natural color.  A couple weeks ago, I broke my hiatus and went blonde for summer!  If you follow me on instagram, you’ve probably seen my new tresses.  I’m loving being blonde again, but my true desire is to be a redhead.  Here are my hair idols.

Jenny Lewis

My girl Jenny Lewis rocks a very natural shade of red, subtle but still lovely.  She’s my true hair idol, but I’m not prepared to take on bangs.  I think this is likely my future color!  This whole look is actually perfection.

Karen Gillan

Karen Gillan had gorgeous, long, red hair.  She cut it all off for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.  Luckily, they made her a wig of her own hair… which she wears for Selfie.  Can I borrow that wig?

Christina Hendricks

Christina Hendricks as Joan Holloway rocks a vibrant, attention-grabbing red.  This is a red that makes no apologies.  It’s nice to see that Christina Hendricks can rock a coral lip with this hair color.  Very encouraging for me.

Bonus: Gillian Anderson

The X-Files

She’s blonde now, and I’m pretty sure I can blame my going-blonde again on her.  Back when I first fell in love with Gillian Anderson, she was Dana Scully, and a redhead!  I could definitely transition with this strawberry shade.

So, red’s next!  Maybe for fall.  Who are your hair idols?
