Essie

November’s End

It has literally just occurred to me that today is the last day of November.  Where did this month go?!  Things have definitely been hectic, but the least I can do is this one last blog post before the month is over!

[1] We kicked off the month with my bridal shower! [2] We finally got to play the SNES! (in my wedding make-up) [3] We had a big meeting with our wedding venue and things got so real.  Are you sensing a theme here?! [4] I finally got my hands on some of Essie Wild Nude’s including my new favorite, “Exposed.” [5] ULTRA SUN & ULTRA MOON RELEASED! [6] We put our Christmas tree up! [7] I rocked many a moon, including this sweater from J. Crew & gorgeous Alex & Ani necklace. [8] This dachshund creamer arrived in the mail the other day as a shower gift from my friend Kelsey! [9] We tried Tora, a new restaurant in Chinatown, and loved it!

I think things are only going to be more hectic as we wrap up 2017!  What were your favorite November moments?

Essie Gel Couture

Lately, nothing compares to Essie Gel Couture.  I love this nail polish, guys.

Let me start by saying I’ve never gotten a gel manicure before in my life.  I own far too many bottles of nail polish to pay someone else to do them.  I have tried the at-home version before with a brand I thought I liked.  I bought the special polish and the special gel top coat but I actually found the quality to be worse than if I did regular polish & regular top coat.  I thought I’d never bother trying again.

Something about Essie swayed me though, and I picked up the Gel Couture color Pre-Show Jitters. It was the exact color I was looking for; though it’s technically white, there’s just a slight pink hue.  I picked up the Gel Couture top coat too, and instantly it felt different than my previous foray into at-home gel manicures.

I loved the color and rocked Gel Couture at a wedding I went to recently.  I didn’t notice a single chip or scratch, despite doing my nails 3 days before the event.  When I do my nails, I usually get a good week out of a manicure– usually 5 days and I push it to 7 with some chips and scratches.  With Gel Couture, I went a full 2 weeks without a chip.  They looked completely fresh for a good 10 days, with maybe some minor scratches by the time day 14 rolled around.

I’ve done my nails many times since then, but I keep thinking about that Gel Couture… and I can’t wait to add new colors to my collection!

Get yourself some Essie Gel Couture now and thank me later.

Essie Fall 2016

I’ve been obsessed with Essie’s upcoming fall collection since I first spotted the nail colors via instagram in mid-August.  When I did a big of digging, I learned that these colors were inspired by Tokyo, Japan– my dream destination.

As stuck as I’ve been in my summer pastels, Essie’s fall collection is getting my hyped for rich, fall colors.

  • playing koi is a rusty orange – don’t we all love orange in the fall?
  • maki mi happy is a berry color that will translate well from sunny days to winter holidays.
  • kimono-over is a dark plum – I love almost-blacks in the cool months as much as I love almost-whites in the warm ones.
  • now and zen is the grey-green I’ve been looking for forever.
  • udon know me is a “mysterious stony blue” and maybe the least “fall” in the collection, but definitely the most me!
  • go go geisha is an antique pink – the perfect mix of color and neutral.

I might just have to get this whole collections!  Which ones are drawing your eye?

March Beauty Favorites

I usually find March to be such a long, tiresome month.  This year, though, I think it kind of flew by!  I’m grateful for that.  I’ve got a few more beauty favorites from the month to share with you. Let’s jump in!

[Julep Body Milk] + The consistency of this lotion has become my new favorite.  It’s dry skin season, so I’ve been applying this on my legs after every shower, whether or not I’ve shaved my legs.  It is more liquid than most lotions, but oh so hydrating.  It’s not sticky at all either, so I can immediately lotion my legs then slip into bed… because I’m super lazy.  I’ve used this religiously since I received it in my first Julep Maven Box and will have to repurchase soon!

[Benefit Speed Brow] + This tinted brow gel is my first foray into brow gels.  I considered a clear one, then a tinted one, but ultimately chose this as sort of a middle ground.  My hair is blonde (naturally, dark blonde or caramel) but my brows are more of a medium brown.  I was afraid to pick the wrong shade.  This tint is so faint that it’s not going to overwhelm.  The gel also dries to feel perfectly natural and keeps your brows in shape!

[Benefit Roller Lash Mascara] + I didn’t think this was for me because my eyelashes have a natural curl going on.  After reading a few reviews, I was intrigued about the brush. While waiting to get my brows done at Benefit, I had them try it on me.  Needless to say, I loved it and ended up purchasing.  I especially like that it’s supposed to help your lashes grow!

[Bite Agave Lip Mask]Chapped lips have been more of a problem for me this year than ever before, especially since I’m so into lipstick lately!  I’d heard that this has transformative powers and couldn’t wait to give it a try.  From just one treatment, my lips are softer to the touch.  I’ve used it about three times now and am very satisfied.  It’s so thick and is actually quite difficult to squeeze out.  But it works!

[Julep Shelly Essie Bikini So Teeny] + I’m all about pastels this time of year!  My two favorite polishes this month have both been shades of blue.  I’ve loved Julep’s Shelley, an almost minty blue, and Essie’s Bikini So Teeny, a more muted pastel blue great for spring or summer.  You can see both on my nails on my instagram.

What are your beauty favorites as of late?

Cole at Home: Nail Polish Project

If you haven’t caught on by now, I have a lot of nail polish!  I did a big clean our not so long ago and basically started my collection over.  My Julep Maven subscription, however, has taken my collection to a whole new level of crazy.

Storage and organization (so you can actually see what colors you have) is always an issue.  I’ve been looking for the perfect nail polish rack to display all of my colors for so long, and I finally found one!  Last weekend, I called my favorite handy man (Hi, Dad!) to hang it for me.

Here is the finished product!

I’ve displayed my Revlon polishes, my Essie polishes, and all of my Juleps!  After I took this photo, I did add a few Sally Hansen Salon polishes that I like and OPI’s Lincoln Park After Dark– just sort of the rest of the colors that I actually use and like.  I definitely want to branch out brand-wise (thus, I think my time as a Julep Maven is winding down!) but I do quite like the uniform bottles for display.

My bathroom kind of feels like a nail salon now!

I love doing little things in my home that make it feel more like mine.  I did move in here to all of the previous tenants’ furniture (honestly, it’s beautiful furniture; I’d love to take it with me when I go!), so it feels great to do that.

So, that’s my latest project, completed!

What do you think?

Fierce, No Fear + Candace & Chloe

Happy Manicure Monday!  I couldn’t wait to try out all of my new Julep colors from my last Maven Box.  Today’s post features two of them, and there’s another on my instagram!

This is what I like to call Earth Sign Divine– perfect for a Capricorn like me!  I’m using my new favorite, Essie’s Fierce, No Fear.  I’ve been toying with the idea of doubling down on the accent colors and Candace and Chloe were just the opportunity I was waiting for!

My traditional accent nail is done in Candace, the sparkle golden brown.  My middle finger sports Chloe, a chocolatey shimmer.  Fierce, No Fear and Candace will be making frequent appearances as I’m especially in love with both of them!

Meanwhile, I keep getting coupons and discount codes from Julep, so I have tons of new colors to try out!  Keep checking my insta for these, and if you want in on the action, leave me a comment with your email address for three free colors!

Labor Day Manicure Monday

I hope you all are enjoying your long weekend!  It’s crazy here in Boston with most of the leases turning over this weekend!  I helped a friend move on Saturday, then celebrated St. Anthony’s feast in the North End.  Yesterday, I literally did nothing.  I sat in bed watching my latest binge and just relaxed.  So, I’ve got to admit–  I was a bit blind sided by the lack of Sailor Moon Crystal this weekend!  I got used to the every-other-weekend thing, and that’s too hard as it is.

Today, here’s the last summer manicure of the season.

These are my two favorite brands: Essie and Julep.  Featured here are Julep’s Sydney, which I’ve showcased before, and one of my two new Essie colors, In the Cab-ana.  My other new Essie is Fierce, No Fear, which I’ve been wearing on my toes for weeks now!

Sorry for the quickie post, but can you really complain when Monday’s your new Sunday?

Doctor Who will be up tomorrow!

Until then, my sweets!
