My Bridal Shower in Photos

Since I really couldn’t vlog my perfect bridal shower, I wanted to share a few favorite photos I gathered from people!

Can you tell I love donuts?  My mom surprised me with donuts as a dessert and my bestie & bridesmaid Julia took these hilarious photos.

My brother’s girlfriend Courtney borrowed this chalkboard from work and served as the day’s event planner with my mom– they did such an amazing job!  Speaking of amazing, look at this guy with that bouquet!

My MOH Amanda granted my wish of a flower crown!  My dress, which you can see in this photo with my beloved Nonna, is from Free People.

A few favorite from instagram!  Clockwise: my hometown friends, soon-to-be sister, future husband, and moms!

With Julia, who I’ll be a bridesmaid for a year from my shower; with Amanda, who I’ll be MOH for next month; and with Tara, whose wedding was the first Matt & I went to together!

And one last shot of the flowers!  Big thanks to my aunt for taking so many of these photos.  Fun fact: I was in my aunt’s wedding maybe 20 years ago?  Her daughters are my junior bridesmaids!

143 days to go til we’re #lyontheknot!

Au revoir, August

The summer’s been so busy.  Talking to my friends last weekend, it seems like we all experienced that.  I can’t say I’m happy that the summer is gone in the blink of an eye, but I’m so looking forward to September, October, November, and December.  The end of the year is going to be busy, but I’m so excited to get to 2018, when we’ll be tying the knot!  So, I won’t miss you, August… but here’s some of my favorite moments.

Weekend Recap: Bites, Sips, & Splurges

I had such a fantastic weekend that I wanted to share it with all of you!  Yes, Saturday gave us an unwanted spring snowstorm, but Sunday made up for it with the sunshine.  Here’s what I did last weekend:

Saturday, I made plans with my friend Chelsea to meet at a new donut shop, Blackbird Doughnuts.  This place is insanely popular and we had to wait in line that wove around the shop while a new batch baked.

I tried the cinnamon sugar stack of three mini-donuts while Chelsea went for the lemon coconut.  I was head over heels for mine, and Chelsea enjoyed hers as well!  I will definitely be making a return trip to Blackbird Doughnuts!

Sunday, since it was such a beautiful day, I made some last minute plans to walk around Boston’s North End with my cousin Amanda and her roommate Marisa.  We got sidetracked walking through Faneuil Hall when we stumbled upon Uno de 50.

Headquartered in Madrid, Uno de 50 has unique pieces hand-crafted by Spanish artists.  Each piece is slightly different because they are all made by hand!  The store only gets 6 pieces of each item, so it’s unlikely that you’ll see someone walking around with your jewelry on.  I was slightly disappointed to see that they have a website, but still, the hand-made differences make, for example, the ring I selected look nothing like the website’s version.

We had a great shopping experience with super friendly staff who wasn’t afraid to pull the store apart so we could try on anything and everything.  They poured us wine while we shopped– a sparkling, fruity blush.  There was also a promotion going on where we got a free bracelet, tote bag, and journal with our purchases.

I chose an adorable skull bracelet & cool key wrap ring!

What we loved was that each piece has a two-year warranty and can be brought in for free cleaning once per month!  We each left with two pieces!

Off our wine and shopping buzz, we took to the waterfront and the North End enjoying the sun and warmth of the day.  We, of course, stopped by my favorite place, Mike’s Pastry, for a couple of canoli for the Cassaro girls and a zeppole for Marisa!  After enjoying our desserts in the park, we headed home.

I can’t even explain how nice this weekend was!  It definitely felt like spring, even though it’s snowed twice in the last three days…  How was everyone else’s weekend?  And what do you think of my new jewelry?

featuring more pictures of Philly from last weekend.

  • David Tennant’s Face –  I’m usually crushing on ladies more than men, but the big exception of my twenties has been David Tennant, specifically as the 10th Doctor.  This weekend, I started watching Gracepoint to deepen my obsession.  This quiz asks if you can pick the Doctor Who episode on DT’s face alone… and, perhaps sadly, I could.
  • Embracing the Basic – What does it mean to be basic in Boston?  This Boston.com list will tell you, and even encourages that it might actually be cool to be basic.  With the likes of Lululemon yoga pants, tweeting at the MBTA, Alex and Ani bangles, Hunter wellies, everything pumpkin spice, and leaf-peeping on this list… I’d say I’m a shoe-in.
  • Jessica Lange singing Lana del Rey – because I want you all to know that I’m still too obsessed with this moment that I already blogged about which occurred over a week ago.
  • Vital Donut Updates – Eater Boston, the most important blog I read, has a collected stream of donut-related news.  Since I’m dubbing 2014, the Year of the Donut for me, this is especially relevant.  If you’re not a Bostonian, check out if Eater has a blog for your city!
  • Intervention Ware – You know you’re old when you want to buy plates for fun and/or decorative reasons.  Fishs Eddy’s “Intervention Ware” is an honest china pattern that cracks me up.
  • Paris & New York – This split screen time-lapse captures similarities and differences between Paris and New York.  Paris is one of my favorite cities, and seeing it side by side with New York seems to make New York a bit more magical.
  • Grace Helbig is my spirit animal – Buzzfeed has Grace answer some important questions, and goodness is she perfect.

Stacked: Stephanie Cmar’s Donut Pop-up!

IMG_4952I was on a mission last weekend: a mission for donuts.  If you’ve been reading, you know I love Top Chef.  My favorite cheftestant from last season, fellow Bostonian Stephanie Cmar, recently left No. 9 Park.  I found out thanks to twitter that she would be selling donuts at The Butcher Shop in the south end on Saturday & Sunday 9 am to 11 am for three weekends only.  I planned to get up early on Saturday to try one of her donuts!

Saturday came, and I got up and got going.  I left my house slightly after nine to walk to The Butcher Shop.  I go to restaurants in that area all the time, so I neglected to look up the address and ended up completely overshooting it.  When I got there around 9:40, the 250 donuts she made had already sold out!  I did get the chance to meet and chat with Stephanie, who was so, so sweet!  I got a picture with her (in which I look completely hideous) that you may have caught on my instagram.  I was even more determined to get up on Sunday morning for donuts!

Sunday, I got up even earlier, even before I get up for work.  I left the house at ten past 8, and arrived at The Butcher shop around 8:30.  I was fourth in line!  In front of me was a couple who read about the pop-up on Boston Eater, and a woman who, like me, had missed out on donuts the day before.  She was actually in line when they announced they had run out at 9:20!  They ran out of donuts within 20 minutes on Saturday!  Even if I hadn’t overshot it the previous day, I’d have been out of luck.  Within minutes, the line behind us wound down Tremont Street and we were super happy we were there so early.  Stephanie came out, announced that they had made so many more donuts than yesterday, and told us to come on in!

Last weekend, Stephanie’s flavors were chocolate Bavarian creme and blood orange glazed.  I tried both, and they were both so delicious!

Stephanie kindly remembered me from the previous day, and let me snap another picture with her looking a little more put together this time!

So, here’s your mission for this weekend.  Get up super early and get yourself to The Butcher Shop, located at 552 Tremont Street, for Stephanie Cmar’s donuts!  They run $3 a piece and go quickly!  Stephanie’s doing two different flavors each weekend and I am seriously considering going back again and again!
