What an amazing episode we got last weekend, Clone Club! Alison has long been my favorite clone, and I am so happy we got an Alison-centric episode! She’s really been disconnected lately– this season we’ve only seen her interact with her sisters through a computer screen. Here in the final season, the flashbacks worked well.
“Beneath Her Heart” makes use of flashbacks from Alison’s life before the Clone Club was even a thing. Alison is in full perfect homemaker mode and Beth is just a voice on the other side of the phone. Even without Beth poking holes in her facade, Alison is feeling a bit confined in her life. Hence, she accepts Ainsley & Chad’s invitation to try magic mushrooms. While under the influence, she meets Cosima (orchestrated by Beth) and wonders what else she could’ve been having seen a cop and a scientist with her face.
In the present, the Hendrixes have been at the mercy of Engers and poor Art. They come to execute a search warrant. Engers plants evidence to incriminate them before stumbling upon Leaky’s body in the garage. Just when we think there is no way the Hendrixes can get out of this, Alison pulls a power move and delivers Leaky’s head to Rachel. Knowing it all goes back to her, Rachel tells Engers to stand down.
Present day Alison has changed a lot, but still has the same concern she did before. She has something new to grasp on to, a new identity as a sister, but who is she? That’s where the episode ultimately ends- -Alison deciding to go away and figure that out. There are some seriously sweet moments with Donnie, and ultimately, an amazing episode for Alison and Orphan Black!
