American Horror Story

For the Love of Fall TV

t’s officially fall, and you know what that means– football, boots, pumpkin everything… and new fall TV!  Yes, our favorite shows are returning for the season and I couldn’t be more excited about it.  Here’s what I’ll be watching this season:

Doctor Who – Doctor Who officially returned last weekend.  Like I said in my last weekend vlog, I haven’t watched the season premiere yet.  I was also playing around with the idea of posting about it here, but I’m not committed to that either… I will get around to watching, though!

Scream Queens – I live tweeted the premiere last night, and I can already tell you I’m loving this ridiculous show.  This is the only brand new series on my list.  Join me on twitter for the fun!

Plus all of Chanel's (Emma Roberts) outfits are amazing and I'm really glad I just bought that faux fur coat. Again, see vlog!

Nashville – Last year’s cliffhanger ending just about did me in.  I’m pretty sure Deacon’s not dead, but I’m anxious all the same.  Nashville returns tonight!  I’ve already got the episode DVR’ed.

AHS: Hotel – On to things that haven’t happened yet! American Horror Story’s newest season kicks off October 7th.  I might never recover from the lack of Jessica Lange, but I’m still up for it.

Walking Dead – I fell in love with this show last year just in time to watch the season wrap up.  I’ve been okay during the hiatus, but I’m so ready for The Walking Dead to come back!  October 11th for this one.

Manhattan – I can’t believe I haven’t talked about this show yet.  It’s a FANTASTIC piece of historical fiction about the Manhattan project that I watched on Hulu.  The second season is FINALLY premiering on October 13 on WGN America… sorry, but I’d never heard of that channel before.  I’ll be tuning in now, though!

MasterChef Junior – With MasterChef over, I can’t wait for more cooking competitions!  MasterChef Junior is even cuter than the adult version.  I’m interested to see the first time that Christina’s with the kids.  I still miss Joe, though.  We sadly have to wait until November 6th!

What are you watching this season?!

WCW: Connie Britton & the women of Nashville

It all started with Lennon & Maisy Stella.  I saw their Youtube cover of Call Your Girlfriend years ago and fell in love with their voices then.  I always thought they seemed sweet, and knew they were extremely talented.  When that song recently popped into my head, I looked them up and learned that they were on a show called Nashville.  Now, I’m not a country music fan, but I am a huge fan of music.  After a couple of clips of them singing, I knew I had to watch Nashville.

So I binged.  The two and a half seasons went fast.  I started watching for Lennon & Maisy, but recognized Chip Esten right away from his days on Drew Carey’s Whose Line is it Anyway?  Hayden Panettiere is not someone I’d ever been interested in, but I find her performance completely moving.  This show has totally proven her as an actress and a singer to me.  Though her character, Juliette, is hard to like, I find when Juliette’s crying, I’m crying.  And Clare Bowen?  Unbelievable voice and gorgeous!

Who I truly fell in love with almost immediately is Connie Britton.  I’d seen her in American Horror Story’s debut season, but there’s something so endearing about her accent in this!  As Rayna James, she reigns as the queen of country music, and Connie rocks it.  And hey, girl can sing!  Her mix of superstar and sweet mother to Lennon & Maisy’s characters has me loving every single minute she has on screen.  And I’m totally Rayna/Deacon!

I’ve been watching Friday Night Lights lately to soak up more of my beloved Connie, but the best news is the Nashville returns tonight!

I’ve been playing the seasons’ soundtracks non-stop, so if you like music and a little bit of drama, I highly recommend Nashville!  Who else is watching tonight?!

2014 Favorites

It’s that time!  With the year winding down, here is my very own Obligatory 2014 TV Favorites List.  Now, if you’ve been reading for a while, none of these should surprise you.  I thought it might be a fun thing to do year to year, so even though you’ve probably read a million of these, I’m giving you another.  I’ve got two categories for you; my favorite things, TV & video games.  Without further ado:

TV Shows

5. Orange is the New Black | Probably my most anticipated new season of the year, OITNB’s second season did not disappoint!

Orange_is_the_new_Black

LostGirlTVSeriesLogo4. Lost Girl | I stated watching this late last year, early 2014.  This show hit every note for me, and I recommend it for Buffy fans and similar.  It’s final season is just beginning, so jump on this train.

Ecran_Titre_d'American_Horror_Story3. American Horror Story | Coven straddled 2013 and 2014, and Freak Show will bleed into next year.  I’m just so onboard with this show and especially Jessica Lange.  I only hope she is as onboard as I am for the next season!

The_Walking_Dead_title_card2. The Walking Dead | I watched the first season years ago, and picked up again recently just in time for the mid-season finale.  I am constantly impressed with the emotional depths this show brings me to.

1. Orphan Black | Recommended to me in late 2013, I watched the first season of this show just in time for the second to begin.  You may have caught my Clone Club Catch-Ups, and expect to see more next year.  Tatiana Maslany’s masterful performance as almost all of the show’s main characters is always worth watching.

Honorable Mention: Top Chef | Another show whose seasons straddle two years, I absolutely loved New Orleans and Boston might be my favorite season ever.  Stay tuned for more recaps!

Video Games

03. Super Smash Bros. WiiU/3DS | Okay, this is two games.  I’ve played the 3DS version more because it’s portable, and I’ve had it longer.  This is my favorite installment of Super Smash since the original N64 version.  The novelty of this concept has not worn off!  Kirby smashing up Pikachu is still awesome.

02. Mario Kart 8 | I hate to say this, but I’m not really a Mario Kart girl.  Sure, I loved Super Mario Kart, but the N64 days had me with Diddy Kong Racing and don’t even get me started on Double Dash.  MK8, however, single-handedly justified purchasing a WiiU for me.  I am so impressed with this game.  I love the online component, and find the DLC exciting.  I keep on coming back for more!

01. Pokémon Alpha Sapphire & Omega Ruby | Hoenn was always my favorite region so I was more excited than ever before for these amazing remakes.  I got through Alpha Sapphire fast; faster than X by far.  These games have even reignited my desire to complete an Unova adventure.  I’m so happy that more people will be introduced to this region and this story.  These games are fantastic and I can’t wait for what Pokémon has in store for us next!  I’d write more about how much I’m obsessed with these fantastic games, but I want to go wonder trade.

And there you have it!  What are your favorite shows and/or games from this year?

  • Blank Space – You all obviously know from yesterday’s post that I’m obsessed with Taylor Swift’s newest music video.  If for some reason you haven’t seen this masterpiece, watch it immediately.
  • Font for Dyslexics – Dyslexie is a typeface that makes things easier to read for people with Dyslexia.  I think this is phenomenal; anything that gets more people reading is so important.
  • Queen Bey – Beyoncé was a category on Jeopardy this week, and I’m proud to say that I could answer this whole column.  You try!  How’d you do?
  • Mindy & Stephen – I love when people I like like each other.  Stephen Colbert introduced Mindy Kaling at Glamour Magazine’s Woman of the Year this past week, and I love that too.
  • Justine & Aisha – I repeat, I love when people I like like each other!  iJustine posted a WCW a day early this week and posted a picture of her with Aisha Tyler.  I love these two woman and freaking love seeing them together.
  • Go Find Yourself – Since most of my content for today’s LFANW comes from Twitter, why not continue that trend?  Go ahead and check out #GG2D and/or Lisa Edelstein’s retweets of fans like myself showing support for the upcoming Bravo series “Girlfriends Guide to Divorce.”
  • Jessica Lange on Elsa – My obsession with Jessica Lange is unwavering.  E Online interviewed the American Horror Story star on her character, Elsa Mars.  I’m still hoping and praying that this is not her last season on AHS, because GOD she is perfection.
  • Speaking of which.  I literally love you, Jessica Lange.

featuring more pictures of Philly from last weekend.

  • David Tennant’s Face –  I’m usually crushing on ladies more than men, but the big exception of my twenties has been David Tennant, specifically as the 10th Doctor.  This weekend, I started watching Gracepoint to deepen my obsession.  This quiz asks if you can pick the Doctor Who episode on DT’s face alone… and, perhaps sadly, I could.
  • Embracing the Basic – What does it mean to be basic in Boston?  This Boston.com list will tell you, and even encourages that it might actually be cool to be basic.  With the likes of Lululemon yoga pants, tweeting at the MBTA, Alex and Ani bangles, Hunter wellies, everything pumpkin spice, and leaf-peeping on this list… I’d say I’m a shoe-in.
  • Jessica Lange singing Lana del Rey – because I want you all to know that I’m still too obsessed with this moment that I already blogged about which occurred over a week ago.
  • Vital Donut Updates – Eater Boston, the most important blog I read, has a collected stream of donut-related news.  Since I’m dubbing 2014, the Year of the Donut for me, this is especially relevant.  If you’re not a Bostonian, check out if Eater has a blog for your city!
  • Intervention Ware – You know you’re old when you want to buy plates for fun and/or decorative reasons.  Fishs Eddy’s “Intervention Ware” is an honest china pattern that cracks me up.
  • Paris & New York – This split screen time-lapse captures similarities and differences between Paris and New York.  Paris is one of my favorite cities, and seeing it side by side with New York seems to make New York a bit more magical.
  • Grace Helbig is my spirit animal – Buzzfeed has Grace answer some important questions, and goodness is she perfect.

Au Revoir, October!

Happy Halloween!  Guys, October FLEW by!  It was such a great month, too.  Because it was such an awesome October, I had a hard time picking just 9 pictures for this post! Here are just some of the things that happened:

IMG_6306

[1] pumpkins, pumpkins, pumpkins! [2] I attended the midnight release of Super Smash Brothers 3DS.  The game is amazing!  And you can see how excited I was about it. [3] I took in a lot of fall foliage!  Remember my hike of Blue Hills[4] Gillian Anderson’s first book, A Vision of Fire, came out!  I’m hoping to actually get some time to read next month… [5] I returned to my all-black-everything fashion sense and finally finished/got re-obsessed with American Horror Story: Coven.  That’s kept me obsessed and up-to-date with AHS season 4! [6] I made pumpkin cookies with my little pumpkin friend!  I’ve actually done a lot of cooking this month. [7] I’ve done a lot of eating too.  These are pumpkin cheesecake cupcakes for part of our October birthday celebration at work. [8] Boston College football!  I went to BC v. Clemson, and getting stuck in the Clemson section was okay because cheerleaders are fun. [9] And finally, my Philly trip to visit Stacie & Walker!  That post went up earlier this week.

You can always check my instagram for more photo updates!

Have a fun Halloweekend, everybody!

Weekend Adventures: Philadelphia

On Friday morning, I took off for the weekend… literally.  I fly out to Philadelphia, PA to visit one of my best friends, Stacie, and her husband Walker.  They moved to Pennsylvania last summer after getting married.  It was so fun to see my friends’ new home, hang out with them for the weekend, and see a city I’ve never seen before.

  • On Friday night we went to a haunted house at the old Eastern State Penitentiary, which hosted Terror Behind the Walls for the Halloween season.  I’ve never been to a haunted house before and this was a series of 6.  I survived!  And I had a lot of fun laughing at myself every time I screamed.
  • Saturday we toured The Mütter Museum, a medical museum full of oddities which was interesting, educational, and so appropriate for my current AHS: Freak Show obsession.  We saw pieces of Albert Einstein’s brain!
  • We also went to Reading Terminal Market, where I probably could’ve stayed and eaten for the rest of my life, and did a drive by of Independence Hall since we didn’t want to deal with Liberty Bell lines.

Here are my other touristy moments:

[1] Philadelphia is a much bigger city than my dear Boston! [2] One of the kittens!  This is Rafa.  His brother Rog moved before I could snap the picture. [3] Reppin’ House Baratheon outside of the Philadelphia Art Museum [4] And here’s Rocky Balboa! [5] Sock bun across the USA– here I am in front of the Philadelphia skyline from the top of the museum steps. [6] Beautiful weather and beautiful views behind the museum overlooking the boathouse featuring in the Always Sunny opening. [7] Philadelphia City Hall topped with William Penn. [8] Giant game pieces!  The Monopoly iron was always my favorite. [9] From the courtyard at Philadelphia City Hall.
