Black & White

The Countdown to Pokémon Sun & Moon is on.  From now until November 18th, I’m taking a nostalgic walk through the Pokémon main series releases until the beautiful day I get my hands on the next Pokémon adventure!

We are at an unfortunate juncture.  Generation 5 is my least favorite generation.  I’m sure some people were really in love with Unova, but I just wasn’t.  The real tragedy is that I was really anticipating Black & White.  I paid close attention to all the info being leaked.  I called the region Isshu, as the Japanese names came first.  I had picked out Pokabu as my starter before I learned his English name, which I liked a lot less.  (Same goes with Miruhog, by the way.)  By the time it was Unova officially, I think I already lost interest.

The Pokémon of generation 5, for the large part, looked like bad copies of generation 1.  I still pre-ordered and purchased both, but was just disappointed in gameplay– battles felt sluggish, graphics seems blocky, and it took for-freaking-ever to save the game!

These versions were clunky, but they did give us some really cool legendaries.  The best thing about these games, hands down, was the seasons!  Definitely a lot of good ideas; these games just took too long to engage me fully.

Now for my tag!

Which Version: Black!  I know White was so much more popular, but I played Black first and White later.

Played On: Same pink DS Lite.

Starter Pokémon: Pokabu.

Favorite Town: Nothing really stands out, but I like Driftveil, Lacunosa, and Undella.

Favorite Gym Leader: Lenora & her books.

Favorite Pokémon: I do LOVE Pansage, Pansear, Panpour, Simisage, Simisear, and Simipour.  Deerling was another great idea.  I like the Litwick evolutionary line too!

Favorite Legendary: There are so many in this game and they’re all actually pretty cool.  I’ll put Reshiram out there for now.

Most Embarrassing Moment: I actually beat Black 2 before beating Black.  More on that next week.

Master Ball Used On: I’m sure it was Zekrom/Reshiram ’cause I was BAD at these games.

Now I want to hear from you!  Join me in my countdown and tell me all your thoughts on generation 5!
