I’m such a sucker for public art.

If I Were A Gym Leader

With Sun & Moon only a month away, I’m thinking about Pokémon more than ever.  Well, okay… maybe I always think about Pokémon this much!

Today, I’m thinking about if I ran a Pokémon gym.  When it comes down to it, I’d have to be a fire-type gym leader.  I’m pulled my thought process from gen 1, which I will always know better than any others and where my Pokémon preconceptions were formed.  Gym leaders’ line ups tend to follow a couple of rules– (1) gym leaders never seem to have 6 Pokémon, (2) they don’t necessarily select the most-evolved forms, and (3) they seem to line them up inversely to save the biggest punch for last.

Here’s my team:

Other considerations included: Charmander, because gym leaders often have two from an evolutionary line; Chandelure or one of its pre-evolutions, but I liked keeped these team colors going, Vulpix or Rapidash, but I thought I was getting gen 1-heavy, and Pansear, because I like the elemental monkeys a lot, but Panpour is my favorite of the three.  One of my favorite fire Pokémon did not make the cut because no gym leader would have Ho-Oh at the ready.

Now that my line-up is set, all that’s left to think about is what I’d call my badge… any ideas?

What type of gym would yours be and what does your team look like?

What We Wore: Wedding Guests

IMG_3233.JPG

I’m not one for OOTD-type posts, (this will, in fact, be the third to appear on this blog!) but I had to share these photos.

If you watched my vlog from this past weekend, you’ll know that Matt & I attended a wedding.  It’s pretty challenging for both of us to find dress clothes as we’re both rather small, but we managed to get it together.  I’m pleasantly surprised with how well we clean up!

On Matt: Suit: J. Crew | Shirt: Uniqlo | Skinny Tie: Penguin | Shoes: John Varvatos

On Nicole: Dress: Aidan Maddox | Shoes: Nina | Eyes: Anastasia New Renaissance | Nails: Essie Gel Couture in Pre-Show Jitters | Lips: Urban Decay Vice in Hitch Hike | Wristlet: Coach

It was a beautiful wedding, but these dancing machines really tired themselves out and are looking forward to a little more of a low key weekend.  Hopefully!  What do you have going on this weekend?

New Renaissance

At it again… a new palette perfect for the transition to fall!

IMG_3237.JPG

I picked up Anastasia Beverly Hills New Renaissance palette over the summer and didn’t get the chance to play around with it until late August.  I got obsessed with it, creating everyday neutral looks and bolder looks to highlight my blue eyes.  The berry tones are perfect for autumn-addicts, but I live in the golden orange tones.

The packaging of this palette is what I’m not crazy about.  It’s a velvet-y blush pink– the feel of it reminds me of the original Urban Decay Naked Palette.  Inside is lovely, though– 14 shades of warmth & light!  ABH describes the colors as follows:

  • Tempera: velvety beige with an ultra-matte finish
  • Golden Ochre: earthy yellow with an ultra-matte finish
  • Vermeer: iridescent shell with a metallic finish
  • Buon Fresco: antique lavender with an ultra-matte finish
  • Antique Bronze: metallic sable with a satin finish
  • Love Letter: raspberry with an ultra-matte finish
  • Cyprus Umber: dark coffee with an ultra-matte finish
  • Realgar: brick with an ultra-matte finish
  • Warm Taupe: earthy gray with an ultra-matte finish
  • Venetian Red: crimson with an ultra-matte finish
  • Red Ochre: sienna with an ultra-matte finish
  • Primavera: shimmery gold dust with a metallic finish
  • Burnt Orange: deep orange with an ultra-matte finish
  • Raw Sienna: neutral amber with an ultra-matte finish

This is the first time I’ve tried ABH’s eye shadows, and I must say I’m impressed!  The colors that drew me to this palette remind me of Kat Von D’s Monarch palette.  While these shadows are certainly pigmented, they are slightly less so than those of KVD in a good way!  They are more blendable and easier to work with, which is valuable when you’re working in vibrant colors!  I used this palette to create the look I wore to this wedding.

Being the first permanent palette ABH offers, this really encompasses neutral territory but also adds a bit of a dramatic flair.  I’m loving it!  Have you picked this up or do you plan to?

Play Me, I’m Yours // Street Pianos

IMG_2922

Bostonians may remember that pianos graces our streets in 2013.  Play Me, I’m Yours is public playable art– painted pianos scattered throughout the city.  They’re coming back to Boston’s streets soon!

Back in 2013, my  most artistic friend, Chelsea Rathbun, got the opportunity to paint one of these pianos.  Chelsea’s piano sat at the bookstore at Berklee College of Music, thus got a lot of play!  You can still see it here.

Chelsea’s got another piano hitting the streets this year, and I visited her in the studio to see it in progress and get a sneak peak at some of the others!

These pianos will be yours next week!  Street Pianos will grace Boston September 23 to October 10.  Visit their website to see where this and other pianos will be and check my instagram for shots of this one in action.
