Pokémon Go Progress Report

It’s been a month since Pokémon Go came into our lives.  Ours was a touch-and-go relationship from the start, because I was stupid enough to register with my Pokémon Trainer Club ID.  Of course, we’ve all had our bad times– it crashed a lot, we got locked out, then they took our damn footprints away.  I may not have written about it yet, but you know I’ve been playing.  I may not be happy to lose the footprint functionality AND PokéVision, but I’m still playing.

I’m currently at level 22 with 92 caught and 94 seen.

I obviously went with Charmander as my starter, and have only found one other since, hanging around the Museum of Science.  There are Squirtle near where I live and work, and I’ve even managed to snag a couple Wartortle.  Bulbasaur I caught in Chinatown, but just one so far.

I’m lucky enough to live above a PokéStop and lucky to have tons of pokémon visit my area.  Aside from the usual round-up of Pidgey, Spearow, Drowsee, Rattata, and Jynx, water pokémon such as Shellder, Staryu, Horsea, Goldeen, Krabby, and Seel come to hang out.  I’ve also had Tauros, Eevee, Electabuzz, Magnemite, and plenty of Gastly come to call.  I’ve been able to fully evolve all of these.  Just once a Clefairy came by.

The Common is a literal paradise for pokémon.  I’ve caught my share of Caterpie, Weedle, Paras, Jigglypuff, Venonat, and now Vulpix here.  I’ve been able to fully evolve these as well.  Nidorans of both genders are abundant at home and in the Common, but I’ve only been able to evolve to Nidorina and Nidorino so far.  Same goes with Bellsprout and Oddish– still only as far as Weepinbell and Gloom.

The aquarium was a good place to catch Tentacool, but not enough to evolve yet.  Poliwag was there too, and so far I’ve gotten him to Poliwhirl, but no farther.  Magikarp frequents my office, but I’m only a quarter of the way into the 400 candies I need to evolve him despite hatching two.  Work has also helped me find Meowth, Psyduck, Slowpoke, and Ponyta, all of which remain to be evolved so far.

I’ve hatched Exeggcute, Lickitung, Mankey, Machop, and Doduo– one only.  I’ve hatched Abra, then eventually caught Kadabra, but no evolution yet.  I hatched Ekans and was able to catch many in Las Vegas to evolve it; I also found Arbok hanging out by the Las Vegas Convention Center.  I hatched Snorlax too, but I found also found one in the Las Vegas Convention Center.

In Vegas, I caught Diglett and Geodude.  I saw Graveler and Rhyhorn, but they both ran.  I got a bunch of Growlithe, but not quite enough to evolve.  Here, I’ve caught Pinsir, Voltorb, Koffing, and Grimer, the latter three I’ve yet to evolve.

I found Hitmonchan at the entrance to the Cambridgeside Galleria.  I snagged Onix at Roche Bros. while grocery shopping.  I found Dratini on a walk down Mass Ave.  I ran through a parking lot in 90-degree heat to catch a Lapras.

So far so good, but I’ve got a lot of work to do!  While I ready my Army of Hypno for gym battles, my main goal is to catch ’em all!  Er, all that I can in North America.  I missed the shadow of a Magmar in the Las Vegas desert, the outline of a Tangela somewhere in the Financial District, and the prospect of a Scyther in Boston Common… and I’m coming for them!  Well, maybe not that particular Magmar…

How are you doing?
